We have our own employees who can carry out non-destructive tests on plain bearings at our premises or at your site and provide you with advice and assistance and, for example, recommendations for use.
In addition to visual inspection, the two most important methods used to assess the quality of a plain bearing are dye penetrant testing and ultrasonic testing.
We have employees with Level 2 certification for these two methods.
We are also happy to carry out tests on your premises. Please contact us!
Non-destructive testing of plain bearings
Ultrasonic testing or dye penetration testing at our premises or at your site
Up until the 1970s, non-destructive testing of the bonding, running surface and adhesion of plain bearings was based exclusively on visual methods. At that time, a visual inspection by experts was sufficient to assess the quality of the plain bearing. This has changed fundamentally in recent years due to new materials and new design concepts between the support body and the bearing metal. Today, non-visual methods are standard.
We - GLT Gleitlagertechnik Essen - offer our international customers various non-destructive tests such as ultrasonic testing or dye penetration testing. On request, we apply the non-destructive testing method on site at your premises or at our company. Equipped with all the necessary certificates from the German Society for NDT, our employees are always there for you.
Non-destructive testing methods ensure safety in your day-to-day operations
Functioning plain bearings are indispensable in many production processes. They play an important role in the efficient generation of energy, especially in hydroelectric and thermal power plants. Defects such as cracks or porous areas have a particularly negative impact here. Our employees use non-destructive testing methods to ensure that the plain bearings in your plant fulfill their function one hundred percent in every situation. Ideally, non-destructive testing, such as ultrasonic testing, will also increase the service life of your system. Whether pump bearings, turbine bearings, generator bearings or guide bearings - we test your plain bearings quickly, safely and guaranteed non-destructively.
Ultrasonic testing enables a qualitative assessment of adhesion
Our German and English-speaking employees carry out non-destructive tests with a great deal of routine for customers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and numerous other countries. On request, we can also prepare the test documentation in Italian or French. Of course, this also applies to ultrasonic testing - one of the most important non-destructive testing methods in our portfolio.
During ultrasonic testing of plain bearings, we detect any material defects in your bearing by propagating sound waves for different lengths of time. We carry out the test in accordance with all applicable standards either at your premises or at our premises in Essen. The test provides qualitative information about the adhesion of the bearing material to the supporting body within a short period of time. Our certified inspectors (DG zfP certificate) will be happy to advise you individually on all questions relating to your bearings and their testing.
Dye penetration test
Precise localization of defects in the plain bearing
Dye penetration testing is the third non-destructive testing method we offer, alongside visual inspection and ultrasonic testing. In dye penetration testing, we make use of the capillary forces of fine cracks and defects in the surface structure of plain bearings. When carrying out the test, we use a contrast agent to visualize defects in the bearing. The dye penetration test enables cracks to be precisely localized and their course to be determined.
Our employees are certified according to the German Society for NDT
We are happy to provide you with advice and assistance in the use and selection of your plain bearings. Our team has the required Level 2 certificate from the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing DG zfP. This enables us to make a statement on all important assessment criteria for plain bearings. Contact us if you would like us to carry out a dye penetration test, visual inspection or ultrasonic test on your plain bearing. GLT Essen has more than 100 years of experience in the manufacture, testing and regeneration of plain bearing technology.
Non-destructive testing methods have become a central component of our constantly growing service portfolio in recent years!
